BIOSURVEILLANCE

Our capabilities support the key pillars of the national biodefense strategy to help global efforts to detect, prevent, respond and recover in the event of biological terrorism. We approach this mission space using public heath methodologies and innovative solutions.

Alexa Research and Engineering (Alexa-RE) staff have been leaders in the biosurveillance and health surveillance space and have supported multiple DoD components for several years. In particular to define and scope DoD biosurveillance by identifying current health surveillance capabilities, information sources, related technologies and integrating efforts across the DoD.

Alexa-RE supported, in early stages, the idea that biosurveillance mutually benefits the Countering Weapons and Mass Destruction (CWMD) and Military Health Systems (MHS) – Force Health Protection mission space. The effort to align biosurveillance activities and leverage existing capabilities across DoD mission spaces is a key driver to developing policy, capability based assessments, and requirements.

Alexa-RE has served as a strong advocate for streamlining and centralizing DoD comprehensive health surveillance information and bettering collaborations between the MHS, Chemical Biological Defense Programs and Science and Technology DoD components. Crucial to this effort was Alexa-re’s advisory role in establishing the Division of Integrated Biosurveillance within the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch and beginning operations to integrate open source information that is relevant to the DoD forces.

Alexa-RE has positioned itself to be at the forefront of this capability and has been assisting our clients in executing policy and implementation strategy for an evolving and essential capability. We have worked in assisting the agencies in developing and adopting a roadmap that brings critical elements together to centralize public health information and using a frameworks that will ensure a successful biosurveillance implementation.

Alexa-RE provided the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Chemical and Biological Defense, the Defense Health Agency and Health Affairs, Health Readiness Policy & Oversight the technical expertise and helped coordinate and integrate biosurveillance assets and procedures to meet the Department’s vision for an integrated capability. Our in-depth knowledge of the Biosurveillance mission space, stakeholders, governmental organizations, and how to navigate collaborations brings unique contributions to clients at multiple levels.
